The formulation

What's inside SUKOON

Every ingredient was chosen for one reason: it has earned its place at the intersection of Ayurvedic knowledge and modern sleep science. Nothing decorative. Nothing arbitrary.

Why scent works

The only sense that bypasses the mind

Every sense you have — sight, sound, touch, taste — passes through the thalamus first, where it is sorted and processed before reaching conscious awareness. Scent does not. It travels directly to the amygdala and hippocampus: the brain's centres for emotion, memory, and fear response. This is why a familiar smell can shift your emotional state before your mind catches up. It is not poetic. It is neurological. SUKOON uses this pathway with intention.

Jatamansi

Nardostachys jatamansi · जटामांसी

Himalayan highlands · 3,000–5,000m altitude

Nervine sedative GABA modulator Medhya rasayana Ayurvedic CNS support

Documented in the Charaka Samhita as a medhya rasayana — a herb that calms and clarifies the mind. Active compounds jatamansone and nardin modulate GABA activity, the brain's primary slow-down signal. Used in classical Ayurveda as a nervine sedative for thousands of years. CNS depressant activity has been documented in modern pharmacological studies. Our jatamansi is cultivated, never wild-harvested — Nardostachys jatamansi is listed on CITES Appendix II and we do not compromise on sourcing.

No other Indian pillow spray uses it. We lead with it.

Secondary · Formulation A & B

Vetiver

Vetiveria zizanoides · खस

Rajasthan & Karnataka, India

Grounding Cooling Base note anchor Ancestrally Indian

Khus is ancestrally Indian. Khas screens were woven from vetiver roots and used in traditional homes to cool air through evaporation — the scent of khus is embedded in the memory of every Indian summer. Its dense molecular structure gives it exceptional longevity as a base note, slows breathing rate, and anchors the SUKOON blend through the night. Vetiver's heavy, earthy character has been associated with reduced heart rate variability — a physiological marker of the body entering a calm state.

Lavender

Lavandula angustifolia

Haute-Provence, France

Cortisol reduction GABA-A activation 15+ clinical trials Sleep latency

The world's most rigorously studied sleep scent. Over 15 randomised controlled trials document lavender's effect on sleep onset, quality, and duration. Active compounds linalool and linalyl acetate activate GABA-A receptors within minutes of inhalation, measurably reducing cortisol. In SUKOON, lavender plays a specific role: it is the bridge note — familiar and trusted by the global nose — that makes the ancient Indian character of jatamansi and vetiver accessible from the very first spray.

Trusted by science. Trusted by bedrooms across the world.

Accent · Formulation B only (Familiar Comfort)

Roman chamomile

Anthemis nobilis

Haute-Provence, France

Apigenin GABA-A binding Gentle anxiolytic No dependency

Roman chamomile contains apigenin — a flavonoid that binds directly to the GABA-A receptor, the same receptor targeted by prescription sleep medication, but gently and without the risk of dependency or morning grogginess. Its scent is warm, apple-like, and softly sweet. In Formulation B (Familiar Comfort), chamomile is the defining secondary note — making it the ideal starting point for those new to botanical sleep rituals, and the softer, more enveloping choice for those who want warmth over depth.

Ancient Europe's answer to a restless night.

The ritual effect

Conditioning takes two weeks.
Then it becomes permanent.

Used consistently every night, SUKOON becomes a conditioned sleep trigger. Your brain begins to associate this specific fragrance profile with the transition to sleep. The scent stops being something you notice — it becomes the signal your nervous system has been waiting for. By night fourteen, you won't need to think about sleep. Your body will already know.

1 Night 1 — chemistry works
7 Night 7 — pattern forms
14 Night 14 — trigger locked
